Local solutions for local economies
Your CFDC benefits the community and local business
Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs)
offer services that help Ontario's rural and northern
communities expand their economies.
As a community-based, non-profit organization, your
CFDC is run by a board of local volunteers. It is
staffed by professionals who encourage entrepreneurship
and the pursuit of economic opportunity.
Through Industry Canada, the Federal Government provides
funding, advice and support to a network of CFDCs
across Ontario who carry out the following services:
community economic planning and development
investment in local business
business development and counselling services
Community economic planning and development
CFDCs work closely with private and public sector
partners in their communities to assess local problems
and to look at new ideas and opportunities that could
strengthen their economies. In consideration of the
unique circumstances of the local area, they plan
and help implement development strategies that are
designed to build brighter futures for the communities
they serve.
Investment in local Business
Through federal support, CFDCs administer local investment
funds to assist new or existing small businesses with
start-up, expansion or stabilization plans that help
maintain or create jobs.
Repayable financing of up to $150,000 on commercial
terms through loans, loan guarantees or equity investments
is available when financing from other sources is
insufficient. All CFDC financing decisions are made
at the community level through local boards of directors.
