Our Vision: SLBDC is committed to helping the Lambton County community expand its economy.

Mission Statement: Work closely with private and public sector partners to assess local economic problems and to look at new ideas and opportunities to strengthen Lambton's economy.

Invest in new or existing Lambton Businesses to assist them with start-up, expansion or stabilization plans to faciliatate long-term job creation or/maintenance.

Provide critical high-quality products and services to businesses and entrepreneurs including Business Counselling, Entrepreneurial Programs, Reference Library and Internet Access.

Community Economic Development


There are three major areas of Community Economic Development (CED):

1. Economic/Business Development

Expand and diversify community’s economy by developing new & existing business opportunities, with such projects as:

  • Business training seminars
  • Entrepreneurship training
  • Development of co-operatives
  • Marketing efforts to attract new industry
  • Business retention and expansion initiatives
  • 2. Social/Cultural Development

    Improve quality of life in a community by developing social and cultural infrastructure, with projects such as:

  • Multicultural events or festivals
  • Community theatre / performing arts
  • Affordable housing
  • Daycare
  • Physician recruitment

  • 3. Infrastructure Development

    Build on the physical capacity of the community to grow and diversify, with such projects as:

  • Industrial site development
  • Sewer and/or water projects
  • Natural gas access
  • Broadband/internet access
  • Building construction
  • To undertake a Community Economic Development (CED) Project, the CED officer will:

  • Gather economic development ideas from local visionaries
  • Meet with local groups to discuss possible projects
  • Work with any community group, non-profit organization or business in order to improve local economy
  • Develop strategic plans or proposals for specific projects
  • Show how business or employment opportunities can be enhanced

  • The CED Officer’s involvement may include:

    Project planning: meet with volunteer groups to discuss issues and ideas and develop a plan.

    Project funding: assist group with accessing funding and writing a proposal.

    Project management: working with group to monitor progress as project develops.
